London Day Trip

Ever since moving to Bristol 7 months ago, I've wanted to plan a day trip to London as the capital is only 2 and a half to 3 hours away from Bristol either by train or coach whereas it was 5 long hours away from Cornwall.

During some time off work, I finally managed to do the day trip and here's what I got up to.

I had no plans on where to go and what to see. I simply just showed up and went wherever I could think of first.
I didn't want to go anywhere that was too touristy as I'd seen them before on past London trips and didn't want to bother with the crowds so the first place I thought to wonder around was Camden Market in Camden Town.

Before this, I had never been to Camden so I was immediately astonished with the liveliness and the difference in character of the town with it's shop buildings and their 3D fronts of shoes, dragons and some other weird ones compared to that of the clean white buildings or classic brown brick on the other boroughs of London.

The town is bustling with tourist shops too as soon as you get out of the tube station and as you walk further up, you come across the famous Camden Market.
I have always wanted to visit Camden Market after reading loads about it and I can say if there's one market you should come to visit whilst you're in the city then let it be Camden.
The market boasts a selection of independent retailers with a wide range of items to offer, from hand-made jewelry, clothes and accessories to second hand records and much much more.

However, if you're not a fan of shopping, then you're lucky as the market also houses over 50 stalls of diverse food from your classic burgers to pancakes to vegan falafels; there's something for everyone, trust me. Just walking around is sure enough to get you hungry and if you're a foodie like me then this is a must visit for you.
After having had some mini Dutch pancakes for breakfast, I then scurried off to the next location I could think of...Notting Hill.

Again, Notting Hill is one of those well-known places of London that surely everyone knows and has heard about made famous by the film 'Notting Hill' with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.
However it's just one of those places quite out from the centre so I've never had the chance to visit but this time with no agenda on mind, I paid a visit.

Notting Hill is a nice neighbourhood full of houses you'd wish you lived in yourself and it's home to the equally famous Portobello Road Market, a colourful and vibrant area although the market was quiet when I visited on a Monday. The colourful houses are not to be missed especially as London is very gloomy and grey like the rest of England.
Alike Camden Market, Portobello's Market is also full of independent retailers and here you can buy fresh fruit and veg too. It's definitely a must visit market during the spring and summer seasons.
As the evening looms close, I decided to see at least one touristy spot. One that I have never been or seen on past London trips so at least it's not a waste.

Tower Bridge, one of London's most famous bridges just by the Tower of London, it connects the north and south sides. On the south side by the river are these glass buildings and The Shard, a stark contrast to the last 2 places I just visited and definitely the more 'city' looking part of London.

Afterwards, I headed over to Hyde Park to get some nature back in me after all the city strolling. I didn't take much pictures though as the park was pretty gloom with the snow having just melted a few days ago and Spring yet to come.

A fun filled day of walking around with no plans in the city and just taking pictures and eating...check.

Which city next? Let me know down below. Hope you're all having a lovely weekend xx
